Social networking site MySpace and TV producer Mark Burnett (he of "Survivor" and "The Apprentice" fame) announced yesterday that they have joined forces to create a political reality show that will air on both MySpace and network television.
Called "Independent," the interactive show chucks a bunch of wannabe politicians into a competition for $1 million, which the winner must donate to a cause or use for a third-party campaign. The show will debut next year. Hopefuls can audition by sending in a video to MySpace, where users will vote on who makes the cut. Variety has more.
Although it'd be great to see what would happen to a group of politicians stranded on a deserted island (cannibalism comes to mind), the show will focus more on real issues that MySpace users determine to be important. Things like global warming, education, terrorism and so on. Contestants will then square off in challenges based on those issues. The gun control episode should be interesting.
