A "river" is a version of a news website that just displays the latest headlines in reverse-chronological order. It's one of the better uses for RSS that's been cooked up to serve the mobile audience.

A river is a clean, clutter-free option for handheld device devotees to surf a site. Everything gets dumped into the river -- there's no curation or editorial shaping. It's just a raw feed. You get a headline and a short description for each story coupled with some basic functionality. It's nice and easy to scroll through the day's news with a thumbwheel.

One additional feature Digg users have been requesting is the ability to read and leave comments on the river version of the site. Maybe the next revision?
