In an inexplicable act of cross-promotion, the US Postal Service is rebranding itself using Star Wars iconography. And apparently Darth Vader's crotch is crucial to the USPS's brand-new look. I mean, take a look at that giant codpiece. I don't remember it being quite so . . . prominent in the movies. But then again, we never really got this "cock rock" angle on old Darth in the movies either.

Also, I have an over-arching question about this ad campaign that goes beyond the crotch issue. I understand the cuteness of wrapping mailboxes in R2D2 drag (you can see the rebranded mail boxes in many major cities, including LA and New York). But why would the US Post Office use an image of Darth (above) in its ad campaign? I mean, is "Welcome to the Dark Side" really the slogan you want for USPS after all the "going postal" jokes and weaponized anthrax scares? I'm just asking.

Note: The image above is a fair use reproduction because I'm using it for the purpose of commentary. Thanks, Jason!
