Why would "hooking up" be any more (or less) damaging to young women than to young men? [Does 'hooking up' hurt young women, MSNBC]
Is it because women are properly supposed to have naturally lower sex drives than men, along with a strict code of sexual monogamy, and hooking up defies both? [Chocolate City, Savage Love]?
Is it because women are supposed to settle for less? [With sex, do women settle for less, MSNBC]
Or is it because we've done our best to produce a generation of horny young people with very little knowledge about safer sex practices, sexual relationships beyond pre-marital abstinence and post-marital reproduction, all while exploiting female sexuality in the media? [How sex ed can protect against media sexualization of girls, About]
Is it because women who play video games have sex more often than women who don't, so maybe there's a danger that all that hookin' up is going to lead to playing video games, especially MMOs, which could lead to having sex on the internet? [Female gamers have more sex, Game|Life]
Or maybe that after all that hooking up loses its appeal and the young women are too busy or bored to keep it up, they'll adjust well into a different phase of relating and living, and life will go on with the same joys and sorrows, with about the same risk and reward of any other life choices, and there won't be anything shocking or frightening to write about because everyone will make their own choices and the majority will "turn out" just fine?
Oh, I'm in a mood.
