As Erik mentioned below, with a few exceptions, pretty much every comic in the newspaper sucks wand.
Hi and Lois, Beetle Bailey, and Blondie all exist in some horrible twilight world where no one ever ages and no one is ever funny. Rex Morgan MD, Judge Parker, and Mary Worth plod along at the speed of glaciers, with a single conversation between two characters usually taking up at least a week's worth of strips.
And yet I find myself reading all these comics daily (online, at the Houston Chronicle) purely because of one man and his blog, the Comics Curmudgeon. Run by Josh Fruhlinger, it's essentially Mystery Science Theater 3000 for the morning strips. Whether analyzing how For Better or Worse completely fails at realistic dialogue or just noticing that everyone in Mark Trail looks the same, this blog provides the laughs that the actual comics themselves forget to provide, but the real joy comes in following along to the soap opera strips. Wanting to keep up with the jokes, you end up keeping up with the soap opera comics themselves, which is why I can now speak at length about the difference between Judge Parker and Rex Morgan MD. Just think: you'll finally have something to talk to your grandmother about!
*It's Dr. Jeff Cory, and Mary Worth just rescued him from a village in Vietnam. Don't ask.
