Construction equipment will increasingly come in hybrid flavors as AB Volvo showed today--which was by no means its first alternative fuel commercial vehicle, either. The Gryphin concept represents what Volvo wheel loaders might look like come 2020.

The Gryphin has a hybrid diesel and electric power motor. Replacing transmissions, drivelines and axles, the Gryphin also has electric motors inside each wheel, which will make it run a lot quieter, Volvo says.

The cab is composed of a lot of glass allowing for better visibility, too. It also adds to its cool looks, too. Most people won't see the wheel loader if and when it is every built, though, unless they happen to be at a heavy equipment construction site.
