In an alt-fuel double whammy, Toyota is thinking of offering E85 flex-fuel hybrids in the U.S. market. "A hybrid that uses ethanol is a pretty good solution," Toyota's North American president Jim Press told Bloomberg after giving Congress his two cents on fuel economy standards. "Those are the kinds of things we need to consider." No dates or models specified. Stay tuned.
Toyota and Honda are the only two large automakers with no E85 flex-fuel offering in the U.S. Toyota has announced plans to field an E85 flex-fuel Tundra pickup by 2009. With ethanol and other biofuels getting talked up by everyone from GM to Tesla not to mention one George W. Bush this would be an extremely smart move on Toyota's part, and Honda would be foolish not to follow suit.
