German shoe giant Reno is planning on embedding RFID tags in its footwear. Ostensibly, the move is being to done to curb shoplifing, though the company has used the tags previously to track factory-to-store shipments. The tags will be deactivated by store clerks upon purchase, much like alarm sensors on apparel at other retailers.
