To keep the robot love here at Underwire going, here's Neill Blomkamp's award-winning short, "Tempbot." With an aesthetic that's kinda Neon Genesis Evangelion meets The Office, it follows the dreary life of a robot constructed for one thing, and one thing only: temping. Watching the Terminator-style POV shots as Tempbot attempts to calculate the vagaries of office politics or human intimacy is both funny and oddly endearing. Neill Blomkamp, by the way, will perhaps be the director of the upcoming Halo adaptation. The pretty slick use of CG in this, and his earlier short film "Alive in Joburg," bodes well for the adaptation.
