If you've been wondering why this has been such a low-post count couple of days, look no further than the above photo. I was out in Utah visiting my sister's family, and my Internet access has been limited. While waiting for the flight back to San Francisco, however, my fiancee Kimra (yep, 10 days ago) nudged me in the ribs and directed my attention to the scene across the aisle:

A dude with a MacBook Pro. Using a Wii Remote. It made me miss you guys.

I introduced myself to the mysterious gamer, who said his name was Charlie. As we got through the most important info (he was using a Super Mario All-Stars ROM to play Super Mario Bros. for Super NES), he explained how this scene of beauty came to be. He used DarwiinRemote, an open-source Wii Remote driver, to bring Wii and Mac together, then just configured keys to the device in SNES9X to enjoy glorious old-school wireless gaming. He made it all work one night last week when he should have been studying for an exam.

Charlie, a University of Pennsylvania student from the Bay Area, was in Salt Lake on a layover on his way back west to California. Contrary to all appearances, he hasn't been a MacHead that long. (On learning that I'd used Macs almost exclusively since 1990, he quite audibly gasped). Instead, he took a job at his local Apple Store about a year ago, despite his Windows using. He enjoyed what he learned enough to get a MacBook Pro. Lest you think he hedged his bets in the process, however, have no fear.

Though he downloaded Parallels and Boot Camp with full intentions of running Windows XP pretty regularly, he hasn't booted out of Mac OS X once in the year since. He's studying computer science, and he saw the light awhile ago. Shine on, you crazy diamond.

Edit: I just got it working myself. It's a piece of cake and absolutely perfect for Mario 1.
