Just got back from visiting the creative folk at New York art education, production, and research institution Eyebeam. More on that later.

In the meantime, if you're in New York you should check out their new exhibition, Open City: Tools For Public Action, which opened March 1st and stays up until April 14th (they're extending it due to popular demand).

The show is an exploration of 12 different artists' takes on public art. It includes works from Eyebeam celebs Graffiti Research Lab, known for their LED throwies, which you may remember from when the Cartoon Network bit off more than they could chew back in February. (For those who want to see what made the Boston Police Department go ape shit, GRL got ahold of one of the Moonites and are displaying it at the show).

Also on disply is Institute for Applied Autonomy's GraffitiWriter. The mini vehicle has spray cans built into it that write linear text messages on the ground at a rate of 15 kilometers per hour.

And my personal fave, Aram Bartholl's World of Warcraft parody. Playing off the game's feature to have your screen name float above your head, Bartholl built life-size names attached to long acrylic poles. One person holds the name over another person's head as they interact with the real world. There were photos from when he did this out in public and it was pretty hilarious.

Definitely go check out the show if you can. It's way fascinating and totally geeky!
