DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes unit says its sport package for the SL-Class transforms the model into out-and-out race car. The main feature of the sports package--which tacks on an extra €2,975--is the 7G-TRONIC Sport seven-speed automatic transmission, which Mercedes says makes it "the only passenger car transmission of its type in the world." The firm did not offer too much in detail to back its claim, but said the transmission shortens gearshift times by as much as 30 percent. All seven gears are changed with levers on the steering wheel, which of course, is something that is definitely not new. I would still like to learn more about the technology from the company, which is available in the V8 SL 350 and the V12 SL 500.
