Spotted this yesterday on Return of the Reluctant. It's a video from a Web project called "Sad Kermit," a fan site devoted to the idea that Kermit turned to a life of drugs and depression after Jim Henson died. So far it's just this video and a few MP3s (great cover version of "Creep" with the line, "I'm green/I'm a weirdo"). The video for Kermit's cover of Nine Inch Nails' song "Hurt" comes complete with impressionistic sequences of Kermit doing heroin and gazing longingly at Fozzie and old pictures of Jim Henson. It's hilarious and the tone is spot-on. I think it's a tribute to the power of the original song that this satire video is genuinely sad in parts. Plus, Kermit has always been sort of depressive. People forget that "Rainbow Connection" is all about loneliness.
