Over the years, DVD commentaries have become a lot like nude beaches. The least appealing folks just love to show it all off while the people most worthy of a big reveal tend not to show anything. Case in point: McG (!) and his oral ogle-fest on the dvd for Charlie's Angels II (don't ask me how I know that) vs. Chris Nolan keeping mum on the recent release of The Prestige. What gives? "Commentaries are boring for both the director and the audiences," director Alfonso Cuaron recently told Wired. "I prefer making films to talking about making films." For the upcoming release of Children of Men, for instance, Cuaron skips the reel-life play-by-play in favor of a documentary, which he describes as a "thematic companion" to his film. The doc, shot just after Men wrapped, features interviews with British political philosopher John Gray, scientist and author John Lovelock, and anti-global activist and author, Naomi Klein.
