Same day service is great! The Hatch-Feinstein cloning bill I mentioned earlier arrived safely in my inbox. As currently written, Sec. 509 of the Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations Act (see Wired News' own Kristen Philipkoski's coverage of the Dickey Amendment) would remain intact.
This means that private or state – but not federal – funds could be used for therapeutic cloning. Basically, no change. The main purposes of the bill seems to be to provide regulations for egg donation, prevent transfer of cloned blastocysts/embryos to countries who don't outlaw reproductive cloning, and to finally outlaw reproductive cloning in the US.
Will Bush veto it? I predict yes.
