Friendster cofounder Jonathan Abrams has a new company, called Socializr, the Wall Street Journal is reporting this morning (paid sub required). The new site will help people plan parties and share event information, like Evite and Meetup, I suppose. Apart from dropping the penultimate "e" from your company's name, what has Abrams learned about business in south-of-Market San Francisco? Adopt a clever motto ("Don't be boring"), give yourself a faux-modest title ("junior computer programmer"), and focus on engineering from the start, to make sure your site doesn't slow down when it becomes popular. The site's open for business now, although it's not even claiming beta status: the logo says "Gamma."

UPDATE 3/16/07: Wired News' Michael Calore reviewed Socalizr and found it a credible challenger to Evite's throne. Read Calore's review of Socalizr, with lots of screenshots.
