In another sign that Japanese automakers put their money on the right horse, Autodata reports that hybrid sales in the U.S. jumped 52 percent in February year-over-year, with more than 22,792 hybrids sold. The "more than" reflects the fact that GM doesn't break out hybrid sales. The February 2007 number does include the Nissan Altima Hybrid, which is now available in eight U.S. states.
Autodata also reports decreases in sales of all light-duty vehicles (down 0.5 percent), passenger cars (down 1.4 percent), and light trucks (down 0.2 percent). The shift in the sales numbers gives hybrids a best-ever 1.82 percent of the U.S. light-duty vehicle market.
