So you're a French sculptor whose assignment is to memorialize the story of the Roman god Saturn, who ate his own sons in order to stop a prophecy that they would overthrow him.
Do you show the hungry Saturn chasing his kids with a knife and fork? Naw. Just go for the gusto and portray Saturn in mid-chomp, with a tot's fingers grazing his tonsils.
Yum!
But Saturn didn't get to play Hannibal Lecter for long. One kid got away -- some whippersnapper named Zeus -- and Saturn ultimately had to regurgitate his two kids and lose his power.
The sculpture "Saturn Devouring One of His Children," attributed to an artist named Simon Hurtrelle, is on display at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Make sure to note the human bone in one of his hands.
