Now that the Apple Corps. vs. Apple Computer dispute has been settled, rumors of the imminent online availability of the Beatles catalog are running rampant. But one download site went a step too far. Wippit, based in the UK site, posted an announcement on their Web site last week with the headline "The Beatles available for download on Wippit."

The record company EMI -- which has hinted that it will be making the Beatles music available online soon, but has remained tight-lipped about when or where -- debunked Wippit's claim and asked for it to be removed. As HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo notes, a top 10 of all Beatles music is inevitable once it really is available for download. But for now fans will have to file that event under "Paul is Dead and other Beatles rumors."
