The idea of running data through the home's power cabling just gets me right here: it's so obvious and so ingenious that the 110v gorilla in the room is almost possible to wish away. After all, CatV isn't really much different, it just takes 0v and 5v bursts as data instead of tacking the exact same differential on top of whatever the existing current is on your power cabling. My guess is that it's fear of the juice, and iffy bandwidth, that's kept powerline networking down.

Add bridging into the equation, as Linksys has done, and suddenly it all makes a little bettwe sense. Using the HomePlug AV standard, their PLE200 PowerLine AV claims 200 Mbps from the 18-gauge in your drywall, with actual throughput at about half that. They'll even be sold, sensibly enough, in packs of two.
