The era when gamers would look askance at LCD displays' burry, ghosted and colorless images are long gone: the thin screens long ago reached CRT quality as far as most users' needs are concerned. The focus is now on ever-increasing panel sizes instead of response times and contrast ratios and what-have-you.

That's not to say the idea of a "gaming monitor," isn't a goer, however, and ASUS are giving that particular PR hook a try with their PG221, spotted at CeBIT by Engadget's Thomas Ricker. Featuring an integrated 2.1 audio system (yes, the monitor has a subwoofer), the 22-inch LCD has an ultra-fast 2ms response time, 1680x1050 resolution, 3-port USB hub, 1000:1 CR and every input under the sun, except, of course, for HDMI.

No price yet, and no release date.

UPDATE: Pic is of speakers at rear! Subwoof!
