In another instance of White House fence-mending with the U.S. auto industry, President Bush will take a break from evangelizing ethanol on Tuesday to visit two Big Three auto plants that assemble hybrid cars. Bush will start by touring GM's assembly plant in Fairfax, Kansas, which builds the Saturn Aura Green Line and will be adding the just announced Malibu Hybrid as well. The other plant on the president's dance card is Ford's Kansas City facility, where the Ford Escape Hybrid is assembled.

"These assembly plants are producing innovative vehicles," said a White House rep, "and innovation is critical to achieving the president's goal" namely a 20 percent reduction in gas consumption within the next decade.
