LVHRD was started in October 2004 by the design collective thehappycorp as a way to get creative individuals in New York together in one room. Every so often they'll host an event that not only celebrates creative individuals, but that's creative in itself. Previous events have included “The Art of the Facsimile” which displayed participants’ faxed in self-portraits and “Vending Machine Challenge,” an eating contest that pitted reps from the J. Walter Thompson ad agency against dancers from the NYC Ballet.
Tuesday night LVHRD hosts its second Vending Machine Challenge.
Set up as a food eating contest, two pairs of competitors will stuff their faces with the entire contents of a vending machine. Satirical newspaper The Onion will face off against free daily newspaper AM New York. Also scheduled to bite into a Snickers or two, or seven...the MoMA versus a yet unknown challenger! I hope it's against the staff of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. The ultimate battle of high-art versus kitsch. I always have my money on kitsch.
You can get tickets online. The first quarters drop at 8PM. I'll report back on Wednesday with photos from the event.
