"Windows is dead," somebody in the know told me yesterday. "Vista will be the last operating system Microsoft ever does that matters. Everything after this will be smaller and hold less market share." Maybe that's true, and maybe Google will smash Microsoft the same way Microsoft smashed IBM. But those of us who occasionally use Windows (yes! I do! when I'm not using Linux!) still dream of a future where Windows lives on . . . in trash compactors and digital fingernail polishers.
