Is the model shown here the first-ever MG Rover made under Nanjing's tutelage after MG Rover closed down in 2005? The pic is a screen shot from the Nanjing MG Rover web site. Most of the text is in Chinese.
MG Rover is supposed to begin production this year after it shut down production and closed its doors in 2005. With the financial backing of its new parent, Nanjing, the fabled MG Rover cars should be rolling off the assembly line any day now, right? Just where the revived MG Rover model will be produced between Longbridge, Britain and China remains unclear. According to a report in The Guardian earlier this month, Nanjing is expected to employ only 250 in Longbridge after 6,000 jobs there were slashed when the firm shut down. Most of the manufacturing will take place in China.
I tried contacting MG Rover and Nanjing to find out about the first made-in-China MG Rover. MG Rover's web site is still functional, but is horribly outdated. All press matters are referred to the audit firm that managed the sale of the company to Nanjing. The Nanjing web site works, but it is let's just say not very forthcoming about the next MG Rover model.
