Wal-Mart is now selling television and film content by download, and making the digital file available the same day the DVD comes out, according to Reuters. The chain has all the big Hollywood studios on board but of course does not offer anything "adult." This is yet another reason I think porn is not going to have the same influence on high-def DVD formats as it did on videotape ("Pornography Is Not the Decider"). If even Wal-Mart is moving to digital delivery, surely high-def digital files aren't far behind.

Unfortunately, the "portable" file format is not compatible with iPods, and the download website isn't compatible with Firefox (as of this post), so even if you do shop at Wal-Mart you might face some frustrations getting everything together.
