This image of a rat's retina is the first-place winner in the 2006 Olympus BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition. Here are some more details:

The image shows the optic nerve layer of the retina. Glial cells are coloured green and retinal ganglion cells are orange. The fibres of the optic nerve are red, and blood vessels are blue.

The man behind the image is Thomas Deerinck of the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research at UC San Diego.
