When World Sports Car Championship rules allowed cars with 5-liter motors to compete in 1971, Porsche wanted to get in on it with its 917 L "Long Tail," with a top speed of 240 mph. The 4,907 cm3, 12-cylinder engine, which is naturally aspirated, cranks out up to 600 horsepower. The Porsche reps would not let me sit in the car, nor would they would they pop open the back for a look at the motor. For that matter, they would not even let me touch the car. I suppose that means letting me drive it is out of the question.
