Research In Motion was set to formally announce its new BlackBerry model on Monday, and the side scroll wheel is history.
The new BlackBerry 8800 will sport a mini-trackball, as seen on the Pearl, which it also approximates in size. The new model includes GPS and mapping functions, a media player and a slot for microSD memory cards.
No phone camera, though, which RIM says is just the way corporate buyers want it. "It's not that hard to put one in," RIM co-Chief Executive Jim Balsillie said. "But it was unambiguous for a dramatic proportion of the mobile professional segment: No camera."
Cingular starts selling the 8800 next week for $300 with a two-year contract.
