The American Journal of Preventive Medicine published a data pool today indicating that Vitamin D may cut the risk of colorectal cancer. We see these kind of studies all the time, but what the hell are we supposed to do about it? Nothing, that's what.

As biochemist Mari says:

This pisses me off. Scientists are constantly releasing research like this where they show that mega doses of something like vitamin D give some crazy benefit to the body. Unfortunately, ever since kids stopped going outside and started getting ricketts, we've been adding vitamin D to all of our food (most notably milk) so if you do go outside and make your own vitamin D you are most likely living on mega doses anyway. Of course, the problem with taking extra vitamin D is that it is not a water-soluble vitamin AND it is actually a hormone (an estrogen homologue no less). My personal theory is that we are going to find that by fortifying our foods with vitamin D, we have created greater incidences of breast cancer, endometriosis and perhaps even the girlification of boys/mens bodies.
Wow, I just read that and I sound crazy.

I think the lesson is clear: Never go outside.
