At last: Now parents can let their obsessively communicative little girls enjoy the wonders of instant messaging without exposing them to the perils of the Internet.

The Girl Tech IM-Me wireless instant messaging system, developed by Mattel's Radica division and currently on display at the American International Toy Fair, includes a small pink handheld device and an RF dongle with an antenna sticking out of it.

Imme

Just plug the dongle into a parental PC with a live Internet connection, and your little one will be good 2 go.

Users can only chat with other IM-Me operators they've entered in their address books, and then only within dongle range -- so you needn't worry that "Melissa15" is really a 42-year-old man.

IM-Me will hit store shelves this summer, and will retail for $64.99.
