I don't know whether to be outraged, to roll my eyes, or to be amused by the effect high-definition video is having on porn performers.
No, I take that back. I'm not amused, not at all.
These women are already waifs, and now they're told to hit the gym and cut back on carbs so they won't have any jiggle on HD screen? They're getting more cosmetic surgery so they "look better" on HD?
Some say audiences like HD because it's more intimate and you can tell that the actors are "real" people, by which I suppose they mean "they have pimples and veins and bumps just like the rest of us." Others say that porn is the last thing they want to see in HD because it wrecks the fantasy.
Given that Hollywood actors are also writing clauses into the contracts about what they will and won't show on HD, I imagine they are turning critical eyes on the porn performers whose jobs don't let them cover up much.
I figure if you want to see "flawless" you can watch animation. If you want to see people performing sex, then lighten up and let them be people. And I'll betcha five dollars that it's the directors and producers, not the consumers, who care so deeply about a wobbly thigh or a spider vein that they pressure women to laser, lipo and starve themselves.
If we the audience truly hated to see signs of humanity on a sex performer, amateur and webcam would not be nearly so popular.
