At the 2002 Sundance, everyone was wearing ugly vinyl necklaces – an enigma until you watched Blue Vinyl, a charming enviro-doc that follows filmmaker Judith Helfand as she: 1) stresses out after her parents decide to redo their house with vinyl siding; 2) investigates the plastic industry; and 3) uses a filmmaking grant to buy organic wood siding for her parents. But what to do with the vinyl? Make it into swag!!

Anyway, Helfand and filmmaking partner Daniel Gold are genius film promoters. Today, they talked 1000 Park City students into making a message in the snow to spread the word about Everything's Cool, their new global warming movie. It says – in Inuit – “We hear you / we're taking action.” Wishful thinking, maybe, but better than handing out more buttons and paper-thin winter hats.
