Lithium ion battery company Hybrid Technologies has hired actor George Clooney to putter around
Italy in a hybrid version of the diminutive Smart Car. The big star will squeeze into the little Smart Car while in Italy this summer. He has a home there and he may also be on location for a film.
Hybrid Technologies says it is bringing the gas-electric version of the Mercedes Benz Smart Car to Europe this year, even though sales of the cute cars dropped off by 22 percent last year. The company is also modifying taxis in New York and has worked with Volkswagen to show off the capabilities of its battery technology in powering conventional vehicles.
Clooney owns theTango electric car, so choosing the actor to tout an energy friendly vehicle was a natural. We'll have to see if Hybrid Technologies can justify the marketing hype by getting an auto manufacturer to deliver production vehicles based on their battery system.
