WTF Is With the Stopwatch Kink on Torchwood?

The blogoblogs are crying out in pain and confusion over a recent, all-too-lengthy dialogue in the BBC's slightly smutty Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood. In this exchange – captured in the clip above – Captain Jack exchanges flirtatious/incomprehensible quips with office manager Ianto about how there are "lots of things to do with a stopwatch." Over at the otherblog, Charlie Anders writes:

After eight episodes of some of the dumbest sex talk I’ve ever heard,
we suddenly get this incredibly bizarre and clumsy innuendo about how“there are lots of things you can do with a stopwatch.”

Anders notes that she's not the only one who is confused, and quotes from other fans:

Polonius writes, “What the hell was that? Was it just the most awkward proposition in the history of sexual tension?”

Doug S asks, “I still can’t work out what they’re on about,” and Beth replies, “It’s got a knob on top, apparently.”

Rheacarlysse says, “Stopwatch porn, people. Stopwatch porn is my new kink.”
