The vagina dentata, AKA a pussy with teeth, has haunted mythology and horror stories for centuries. Now a movie called Teeth, directed by Mitchell Lichtenstein and showing at Sundance next year, reimagines this male nightmare as a female triumph.
Dawn is a mutant who discovers that she's well-defended "down there" when she's nearly raped and – well, you can connect the dot. This is the kind of mutant power you'd never see in X-Men.
Apparently the residents of East Austin, where Teeth was filmed, got a little freaked when they discovered that the movie's naughty bits had, um, bite. But naughtiness isn't the point. This is a horror movie, people, and it sounds like it will pack a David Cronenberg-style punch. I can't wait to see it.
