More bad new for satellite radio:
- Sales have been slowing since February.
- There's no holiday pickup this year.
- XM and Sirius may have already peaked, with both likely to lose more subscribers than they gain starting next year.
That the consensus of a slew of analysts, who agree that retails sales of XM and Sirius devices have tanked this year.
That leaves the companies dependent on automakers pre-installing satellite-ready stereos, and even that may not be a savior. Only half of those who buy a car with a Sirius- or XM-ready radio ever activate service, and the rate is likely to drop as iPod connections in cars become more common.
