A lot of very talented PhotoShop jockeys have put a lot of energy into faking up convincing-looking iPhones. Today, I got sent one of the first efforts someone has devoted largely to faking the interface of the phone, and to hell with redesigning the chassis!
It's clever, I'll give it that, but push-button is way more efficient than rotary dial. That's why rotary's dead. And this rendering is also a super-obvious fake. How do I know? Well, it's built on a 4G iPod body, for one thing. Look at the click-wheel, then look at the current-gen iPod. Apple doesn't make 'em like that anymore. It's subtle, but it's there. There are other design cues, like the rounded top that petered out with the 4g. Love the concept, though.
Thanks, Don!
