I am wondering why Gary Wolf (The New Atheism, November 2006) made atheism seem like a cult or a church by the use of the phrase, „The New Atheism‰ and „A band of brothers are mounting a new crusade.‰ I suspect he knew he would wimp out by not taking a moral position on the evil that people do in the name of religion. He needed a way to reject atheism but to continue to make himself seem modern, logical, and a nice guy. So he did that by making Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennet seem „extremist.‰ Bad form. I highly recommend that everyone read Daniel Dennet‚s, Richard Dawkin‚s, and Sam Harris‚s books. Gary Wolf interpreted these authors as he chose, but he did not do them justice.
