Hated the cover subtitle! Why juxtapose science with no heaven or hell?
The conflict between religious belief and scientific discovery is a historical curiosity. Despite warnings from logicians and priests, science and religion coexist just fine in practice. Most humans realize that scientific or spiritual 'truths' are less important than tolerance and coexistence. Standing in the way of this social progress are the scientific and religious extremists. They ignore that one can have a healthy understanding of nature without filtering every last thought through the scientific method, just like one can be moral without believing in gods. Perhaps someday we'll evolve away from our penchant for noncognitive mysticism and idolatry. Until then, the "new atheists" will not make significant inroads with the general population. Finding a way to reconcile our logical and spiritual sides is the real challenge. The science-religion debate is a sham.
