A new study from Jama's Archives of Surgery reports that light to moderate drinking will reduce your chance of dying if you happen to suffer a massive head trauma. The study originally set out to prove that drinking increases head-injury mortality (and apparently it does slightly, if you're really drunk), but the data ended up showing that if you’re going to take a steel-toed boot to the skull, it’s best to get a few shots of Jager in you first.
Of course, the researchers point out that if you have a few shots of Jager in you, you’re much more likely to end up taking a steel-toed boot to the skull. That makes it a bit of a catch 22: Are you safer a bit wobbly and accident-prone, or sober but vulnerable? I know which way I'm betting. Pass the Jager.
