You've heard about the 1970s TV series Battlestar Galactica, and you've probably watched the new series on SciFi Channel. But have you watched Battlestar Galactica 1980, the shortlived revival show that had almost none of the original cast? With its budget halved by ABC, this version of Battlestar couldn't ever leave Earth. The entire series took place on our glorious planet, during the glorious year 1980. Because it was in a kid-friendly 7 PM timeslot, each episode had to contain at least four educational messages. Apparently one of those messages had to do with Nazis, because there was an extended plot arc about how the humans had to travel back in time to help the Nazis win World War II. Why? Well, the Nazis were so organized that if they won their technology would be advanced enough to beat the Cylons by the 1980s. Um, yeah.

According to Cylon.org:

The Cylons themselves were onlyfeatured in two episodes. In "The Night the Cylons Landed", a humanlooking Cylon and a Centurian walked around New York City hoping to find a radiotransmitter to call forth more Cylons. In this story, they kidnappedthe radio personality Wolfman Jack. This Cylon danger was thwarted when bothvillians fell into a garbage dumpster and were hauled away by cityemployees.

Luckily, the show featured Farscape's Kent McCord and had wacky Broadway musical scenes. Is it any wonder the handful of episodes that comprise Battlestar Galactica 1980 aren't out on DVD? In fact, the only place you can get it is on the webotorrent – mostly in Spanish.
