The Volkswagen Nanospider offers space for two, a raft of cutting-edge technology and a look that goes way beyond the standard, "in 10 years we might actually make this" futurism of most hypothetical vehicles.

Drawing power from fuel cells and sunlight, it even sports "infatable organic body panels," though I know a few places you can order one of those without having to also get a car.

The creation of designers Patrick Faulwetter, Daniel Simon and Ian Hilton from Volkswagen's Santa Monica design center, it's purpose is to make the most of California's ecology. "Nano" isn't just a kind of marketing appelation either, as they imagine a grey goo of programmable nanobots assembling to dynamically generate perfect crumple zones in the event of an accident; in other words, this fellow is pure science fiction.
