Comic book writer Greg Pak has single-handedly made me fall in love with The Hulk again (well, OK, Peter David helped a little). Pak's series of "Planet Hulk" comic books feature a noble Hulk who finds himself stranded on an alien world. He comes to the aid of oppressed native insect peoples, gets involved with local imperial politics, and manages to become a heroic liberator. Pak, who also wrote and directed the smart science fiction indie Robot Stories, offers writers' commentary on the new issue 100 of Incredible Hulk in Broken Frontier:

Thus far in the “Planet Hulk” epic, the Hulk has been exiled to thesavage alien planet of Sakaar, where he’s been a slave, a gladiator,
and now a rebel leading a revolution against the wicked Red King.
Accompanying the Hulk on his rampage across the planet are his warboundgladiator allies, fellow monsters and rejects who have sworn to fightside-by-side to the very end.

As Issue #100 begins, the Hulk and his posse face the Spikes,
horrific aliens released by the Emperor to destroy the Hulk — and anyother person in their way. As the Hulk unleashes his rage, will heprove himself to be a monster or a hero? The fabled Sakaarson, thesavior of the planet? Or the dreaded Worldbreaker, the destroyer ofeverything?

To sum up: Planet Hulk – fuck yeah!
