What’s up with Richard Dawkins? Not everyone who believes in God believes in creationism, heaven and angels in the clouds. When science can prove what caused the Big Bang, then its missionaries can proclaim that God is a delusion. Until then, scientists (even Oxford ones) should either stick to what they know or look into religious teachings that support the theory of evolution- like the Hindu doctrine of Vedanta, which identifies consciousness itself as the ultimate (because it can’t be broken down into parts, is immaterial, outside of time and space, eternal, infinite) substance out of which the universe and everything in it evolves.
“Some call it Nature, others God.” – Ramana Maharshi, 20th century Indian sage
From a more Judeo-Christian perspective, doesn’t Mr. Dawkins understand that the reason people continue to believe in God is because they see the devil all around them? If reason were capable of truly curing human suffering and human character, people would have given up God long ago. Every atrocity caused by religion has reason as its helpful handmaiden. Napalm, eugenics, exploding bullets, DDT, the Union Carbide disaster, torture devices…if religion causes the entire world’s evil, why does reason keep providing it with such horrifying toys?
Cultural bigotry is not a basis for good science, or good philosophy. Mr. Dawkins and his crew should be asked to clarify what they mean when they use the word God. Or they should stop talking about it.
