A Digg user found this open directory of every Astronomy Picture of the Day ever. Additionally, I located the annotated version. There are thousands of photos on offer here, most of them of exceedingly high quality.
In case you're not familiar, the APOD page is one of the web's greatest pleasures. The project, which was started by two professional astronomers and is funded by NASA, features a different astronomy picture every day along with commentary from scientists and astro-experts. If you're a true APOD junkie like me, then you probably know about the Mac dashboard widget for the service.
