The entire Mac universe is frothing these days because of a rumor sprung last week about a supposed Apple satellite press announcement scheduled for Sept. 12, the first day of Apple Expo Paris.
Some say it's for new MacBook Pros and iMacs, outfitted with hot new Core2 Duo hardware to keep up with the PC Joneses. Others are pegging this as the launch date for the fabled true video iPod, the iPhone and maybe even the reemergence of the Newton as a sort of hovercraft.
But it's not even a certainty that Apple is holding this event. We have received no invites here at the office, and the only invitation in evidence is an e-mail that was leaked out to Your Mac Life. Even the optimistic AppleInsider is holding back from claiming that the event is a lock to happen.
That's not even including what the pundits are predicting for Sept. 25, which is the second major Apple press event in the cards for the month.
For myself, I'm having trouble getting too worked up about this. We're only likely to see evolutionary computer upgrades, and I can't see Sept. 12 as the date for the iPod change-up. I've been wrong before, but it seems like the wrong time. Time will tell whether next week will bring us the iTunes Movie Store, but I'm not betting the bank on it.
That streaming video device sounds great, though, huh?
