Sadly, Scott Kurtz has announced that PvP will be discontinuing the reader-added tags that were in the beta of PvP. It seemed like a neat idea, but apparently it didn't survive contact with the real world. Part of the problem was that some people decided to screw with the tags to make the point that some people are going to screw with the tags. Which, on one hand, is stupid vandalism, but on the other hand is true. If it wasn't going to be these self-styled, self-referential watchdogs it would have been someone else, so I guess in a twisted way it's just as well that it got worked out in beta.

Cushioning the blow, the other part of the problem is that people with good intentions were also adding too much noise to the fields. I'm always fascinated with attempts to create new ways of organizing data, but it sounds like this one works best with more editorial control.
