Edit: Check this snazzy progress thermometer!
Long-time readers might recall a challenge I issued this spring to buy a Mac for an underprivileged school in New York (long-time is a relative ter m for blogs). We did it – fast. I've never been prouder. Now, the organization I worked with then, Donors Choose, has now offered to help us do it again, and on a much larger scale.
Oh, and they got Claire Danes and Apple to help out, too.
Check it out – The First Annual Claire Danes / Apple / Cult of Mac Back to School Computer Challenge! Or, as I like to call it, TFACD/A/CoMBtSCC! (I love catchy acronyms, don't you?)
So here's the deal. I'm looking to you, my beloved readers, to help raise $10,000 to bring Macs and other Apple technologies to needy kids across the country. Every dollar we raise will be matched by Claire, doubling the money we can raise in the name of philanthropy and education and Mac.
To make our dollars go further, Apple is offering Donors Choose a 15 percent discount on all merchandise involved, which will essentially make up for any administrative costs – every dollar donated will go directly toward advancing the technology and creativity education of a classroom.
So head to the link above, find a cause you believe in, either from the eight featured projects that Claire will match, or this comprehensive list of all Apple-related projects Donors Choose has going right now.
I've kicked us off with a donation to the Enhancing Fluency Through Technology (Part I) project. It's to support the learning of English in Chicago. I went to school in the Chicago area, and literacy and bilingual education are passions of mine, but there are many worthy causes.
I'll post updates of how well various projects are going and what our next goals are as this evolves. I'd like to extend my sincere gratitude to Claire, Apple and Donors Choose for making this happen. Together, we can make a huge difference.
