This is a curiousity. Some enthusiastic (or possibly sarcastic) Digg poster has touted a "Massive Market Share" increase for Mac OS X, apparently using this data from Net Applications.

And, um...there's not much to see here, folks. The measurement is based on the percentage of computers reporting to Web sites they visit that they're Mac based. Apple's marketshare appears to drop by .03 percent over the last year. Looking closer at August's numbers, the reason Apple dropped from an apparent recent peak of 4.3 percent since March is that Intel Macs are counted separately. Added into the other numbers, Apple is still at...4.3 percent.

The only gain I see at all is against Windows 2000, Me and 98, which is kind of like the Honda Fit making big gains against Yugo Hatchbacks. The story is that Windows XP continues to be adopted by more users. This isn't about Apple at all. Sorry, guys.
